About Goa
Fort Aguada
The Fort Aguada is one of the largest and impressive forts preserved as one of the best known landmarks in Goan history. Its prominence has grown from the fact that its headland on which it is built offers a wonderful site for military architects due to its shielding of the vital sea access from the heart of the Portuguese territory thereby making it an ideal site for seaward as well as landward defense. The elimination of the Maratha threat and the acquisition of the New Conquest added more glory to its importance right upto the end of the 18th century when Goa’s future borders were established. The most vital part of it was its impregnability to survive attacks by enemies through land or sea or simultaneously from both sides which often happened.
Anjuna Beach
Folded up by azure water of Arabian Sea and with hills in the background, Anjuna Beach in Goa is a perfect paradise for beach lovers. Situated just 8 km away in the west of Mapusa town, this beach is blessed with a bizarre array of red laterite rocks. It is beautifully embellished with picturesque sceneries and so the place is reckoned among the hottest tourist destination of India. It’s distinguished due to the formation of unusual rock placed on a small inlet of white sand and black rock protruding into the sea. Baga Beach
Goa Baga beach is an option for those who want to be away from the hustle and bustle found on the other beaches. Baga Beach in Goa looks as if it has come straight out of a painting. Majestic white waves rushing to wipe out the feet imprints left by you on the white sand while the wind continues to flirt with the palm trees. Goa’s Baga beach is a small but perfect beach located between its two more famous cousins, Anjuna on one side and Calangute on the other. It is a good place to enjoy some quite moments and dwell in peaceful contemplation with oneself. Calangute Beach
‘The Enamour of Downtown Calangute” Holding the spectacular beauty and charm with all the frantic nightlife of an ocean paradise, Calangute is your way to heaven. Encircled by palm and coconut trees, the beach is spread four miles along the Arabian Sea and nine miles from the Panaji. Accompanied by Candolim village that wings it towards south and crossroads of Baga towards north, Calangute Beach forges the real attraction of Goa tourism. Here, the charms are multiplex like the exotic jewels hanging from the storefronts, local’s warmth, or it could simply be the orphic sea-breezes that bring an imminent adventure. Due to its incredible beauty and serenity, it’s known as the ‘Queen of Beaches’. It’s among the top ten bathing beaches in all over the world, which remains crowded during daytime with tourists & locals.
Sinquerim Beach
Sinquerim is one of the best beaches in Goa where one can enjoy water-skiing, para-sailing, fishing, scuba diving and windsurfing. The beach is known as the first tourist beach of North Goa and is a very famous Goan destination. The Sinquerim beach is a beautiful beach that has a spectacular stretch of sand. It is located at the south of the famous beaches like Baga, Calangute and Candolim. It is an ideal place for swimming and one should not miss visiting this beach when on their travel to Goa for beach holidays. The beach at Sinquerim lies adjacent to the Aguada beach. Near the beach one can see the famous historical fort Aguada that was built by the Portuguese to defend them from any attack from the sea route. One can find a large number of tourist resorts and hotels that provide good accommodation facilities at the Sinquerim beach.
Miramar Beach
Situated at the distance of 3 km from the Panaji, a lovely and enchanting golden beach of soft sand covered with palm trees facing the blue Arabian Sea is the Miramar beach. This beach was originally popular as the ‘Gasper Dias Beach’ and it is the point where Mandovi River merges with the Arabian Sea. It’s a romantic gateway for adventure freaks, beach lovers and honeymoon couples. The 2 km long coast vaunts of splendid, soft silvery sand bed that glitter in the moonlight and offer colourful view of the Aguanda fort. Miramar beach offers a fascinating view of the magnificent Portuguese fort across the river. Beach lovers can get a beautiful glimpse of the grandeur of the Arabian Sea from the beach. No doubt, it has peaceful surroundings and solitude, which draws thousands of tourists at this place to rejuvenate.
Chapora Fort
Chapora Fort, located in Bardez, Goa, rises high above the Chapora River. The site was the location of a fort built by Muslim ruler Adil Shah called Shahpura, whose name the Portuguese altered to Chapora.
Vagator Beach
Vagator Beach is split into two main beaches by a seaside headland which holds the car park and many stalls selling trinkets, clothes, soft drinks and snacks. As you face the sea, on your right is North Vagator Beach (Big Vagator) and on your left Ozran Beach, more commonly known as Little Vagator Beach.
Water sports
Goa is also known as the water sports capital of India. Get an amazing view going parasailing, try not to fall out of the banana boat while hurdling quickly behind a boat, or truly get your adrenaline going by speeding across passing wakes on a jet ski.
Basilica of Bom Jesus
This is a catholic church in Goa wherein lays the tomb of St. Francis Xavier who was a well known and important missionary in India. The structure of the church is made of marble and the church is ornamented with precious stones as well as paintings delineating the life of the saint. A very significant aspect of this church is that the church contains the St. Francis’s mortal remains.
Shantadurga Temple
This temple can be spotted at 33 Kilo Meters distance from Panjim. The deity of this temple is goddess Shantadurga. The temple appears to be surrounded by coconut trees, flower gardens as well as paddy fields. The temple is a typical Goan temple and is amazing to behold.
